When does the IB Diploma Program (IBDP) begin?

Officially, the IBPD is a 2-year program, spanning a student’s 11th and 12th grade years.  However, because IB is a rigorous academic program, it is important that students prepare in 9th and 10th grade for the type of work they will be asked to do. Please see our “Recommended Course of Study” handouts to see what type of prerequisites students should consider.

How does a student become an IB Diploma Program Candidate at BMHS?

In the winter of their 10th grade year, students who are interested in becoming IBDP candidates will complete an application process.  The IB admissions committee will consider:

  • a student’s grades in 9th and 10th grade
  • teacher recommendations
  • a short essay
  • an interview

Students who, in grades 9 and 10, have demonstrated a strong academic record, a strong work ethic, intrinsic intellectual curiosity, and a desire to participate as citizens in a global community will be considered strong candidates for the program.
